Description of Acetylfentanyl
Acetylfentanyl is a mu-opioid receptor agonist which possesses receptor binding properties quite similar to that of morphine. This particular substance is a known process impurity found in the synthesis of the opioid analgesic, fentanyl. Acetylfentanyl is intended mainly for research and forensic applications.
Acetylfentanyl is known to be an opioid analgesic drug which is analog of fentanyl. Various research studies have shown that it is around fifteen times more potent than morphine. This drug has never been licensed for medical usage but has only been sold as a designer drug. Acetylfentanyl is said to be discovered at the same time as fentanyl itself and was encountered very rarely on the illicit market in the late 1980s.
Side effects of Acetylfentanyl
Side effects associated with fentanyl analogs are similar to those associated with that of fentanyl itself. These side effects include nausea, itching, and even serious respiratory depression, often life-threatening.
Since the most recent resurgence of use that began in Estonia at the very onset of this century, analogs of fentanyl are the cause of deaths of hundreds and hundreds of people all over Europe and the former Soviet republics.
Mechanism of action of Acetylfentanyl
Since it is a mu-opioid receptor agonist, acetylfentanyl might even serve as a direct substitute for other Opioids such as heroin.
